Your record, and who sees it

Privacy notice

This notice states what Tideglyph holds about you, why it holds it, who receives it and what you may ask us to do. It gives the notice that section 18 of the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (POPIA) requires.

☽ Draft. No attorney has signed this text. The text can change before Tideglyph takes a payment. Write to the support address with a question.

The responsible party

OmniStrata (Pty) Ltd is the responsible party for your personal information. Our Information Officer answers each request under this notice. Write to the support address.

What we hold and why

We hold only what Tideglyph needs to make your reading, keep your record and take a payment. Section 11(1)(b) of POPIA is the lawful ground: we need the record to give you the service you asked for.

What we holdWhy
Email address and a hash of your passwordTo sign you in, to send the daily letter, and to confirm a cancelled plan. We never store the password itself.
Birth date, birth time, birth place and timezoneTo calculate your birth chart and the daily transits
Each daily readingTo show today's reading and your history
Your mood and your journal notesTo keep your private record
Your plan, its status and its end dateTo decide what you may open
Each payment record, and the Paystack card authorisation codeTo confirm a payment. We never see or store the card number.
The daily letter pause settingTo stop the daily letter when you ask

We do not sell personal information. We do not use it for advertising, and we run no analytics tool. Your journal can hold anything you write in it. Do not write a detail there that you do not want us to hold.

Who receives the data

We give personal information only to a company that helps us run Tideglyph. Each one receives the minimum it needs.

RecipientWhat it receivesWhere
RenderEvery record. Render runs the app and the database.Frankfurt, Germany
PaystackYour email address and the amount, to take a payment. The subscription code, to cancel a plan.South Africa
AnthropicThe date and the list of transits for that day, to write the reading text. It receives no email address and no birth details.Outside South Africa
ResendYour email address and the email text, to deliver the daily letter and the cancel confirmationOutside South Africa
Google FontsYour browser asks Google for the page fonts. Google then receives your IP address.Outside South Africa

The transfer outside South Africa

Your record sits in Germany, and no copy sits in South Africa. Section 72(1)(a) of POPIA permits the transfer. Each recipient outside South Africa is bound by a data processing agreement, or by a law, that gives your information adequate protection.

How long we keep it

We keep your record until you ask us to delete it. No job deletes a record automatically. We keep a payment record for five years, because section 29 of the Tax Administration Act 28 of 2011 requires it. We tell you when a law stops us from deleting a record.

How we protect it

  • Tideglyph answers over HTTPS only.
  • A signed cookie keeps you signed in, and it expires after 30 days.
  • Paystack takes each card payment on its own page.
  • A person with database access can read every record. We keep that access to a minimum.

Your rights

Write to the support address from the email address on your account. We answer within 30 days, and we tell you if we need longer. Tideglyph has no export button and no delete button, so a person answers each request.

RightWhat you may ask
A copy, section 23To confirm that we hold your record, and to receive a copy of it
Correction or deletion, section 24To correct a record that is wrong, or to delete your record
Objection, section 11(3)To object to the use of your record
No direct marketing, section 69To stop a marketing message. We send none. The daily letter is part of the service, and each letter has a pause link.

A complaint, section 74To complain to the Information Regulator

Cookies

Tideglyph sets one cookie, called tg_session. It keeps you signed in, and it expires after 30 days. Sign out to remove it. We set no analytics cookie and no advertising cookie, so we show no cookie banner.

Children

A child is a person under 18. A child may not hold a Tideglyph account, and we do not knowingly hold a child's information. Write to the support address if you think we hold one, and we will delete it.

A complaint to the Information Regulator

You may complain at any time. You do not need to write to us first.
